The Mears Ashby War Memorial, Northamptonshire

Mears Ashby is a beautiful, picturesque village two miles west of Wellingborough, close to the Sywell Reservoir. The Memorial stands in the church grounds, which lies on Church Lane and is inscribed:

'To the glory of God in proud remembrance of the men of Mears Ashby who fought and died for King and Country in the European War 1914-1919

Their name liveth for evermore'

Inside the church is a superb privately produced folder which covers each individual who gave their lives in the war. Recent contact from Peter Dyer, the Churches Clock Keeper, tells me that the book was researched and produced by Aubrey Payne (Church Warden) and a friend, both of whom deserve recognition for their efforts
